River Materials Inc. (RMI) is located in McKeesport PA at mile post 14.1 in the most active pool on the Monongahela River. Our facility is an environmentally friendly terminal that is strategically located 14 miles south of Pittsburgh PA and is compliant with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the U.S. Army Corps and Engineers.
RMI occupies space in the Industrial Center of McKeesport. It is part of the Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC) which is the largest NGO development organization in Pennsylvania.
The McKeesport site has undergone a variety of ownership. It was originally founded as the National Tube Co. by financier JP Morgan. When the Morgan group acquired assets of Andrew Carnegie “Carnegie Steel Co.” the site became part of U.S Steel.
This site was developed in 1915 by the Dravo Corporation. These 18 acres of land were used as a sand, gravel, and coal terminal. It supported the loading and offloading of coal/coke/slag. Dravo later sold the site.
It’s a privilege to be able to be part of the sites rich history, and an honor to be able to bring purpose back to the land.
